I am a cinephile. There, I said it. I love movies of all types, as long as they can create the magic onscreen with the capability to make the real world disappear or at least shrink for two hours.

When I was a kid, my older brother and I would mark down in the TV Guide which movies weโ€™d seen already. Of course, he had always way more than me. Butโ€ฆ that was back then, and Iโ€™m confident the scales have either balanced or tipped in my direction.

The trees are green again, the birds and flowers have returned, along with drive-in theaters, and backyard home movie screenings. Darth Vader represents redemption, temptation, and why we should use logic over emotion. Lol. The first six Star Wars movies are the perfect way to begin the month. Yes, just the first six. May the Fourth be with you.

And then thereโ€™s Motherโ€™s Day. Tears or laughter? Pick one or both. There are films which highlight dynamic mommas, and you can always find the movies that tug at our heartstrings. My five recommendations are; The Imitation of Life, Steel Magnolias, Soul Food, Terms of Endearment, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Youโ€™re welcome. Shout-outs to Claudine, Almost Famous, and Mermaids.

If you have the time, check out The Holdovers. Man. I watched it on a plane a few months ago, before the Oscarโ€™s, and the acting of Ken Giamatti and Divine Joy Randall was noteworthy. Yes, he deserved the nomination for Best Actor, and she earned her statuette for Best Supporting Actress with her portrayal of a grieving mother.

Those should get us through the month. See yaโ€™ in June.
